Members of the faculty offer extensive experience in asset liability management and investment strategy. They bring the diverse perspectives of financial advisors, regulators and academics, providing a comprehensive understanding of successful credit union financial management.

Thomas E. Bowers, Vice President, Client Services, ZM Financial Systems
Tom Bowers has an extensive background in asset liability management, capital markets activities and regulatory experience. Tom is responsible for providing practical guidance on advanced financial analytics and how to apply such tools towards resolving crucial risk management issues. Tom's role includes implementation of ZMFS solutions, on-site client education and assisting on enhancing and broadening the company's software products. He maintains a strong public presence as a top-rated speaker at risk management forums for groups like BAI and the Financial Managers Society. Mr. Bowers is the author of Mortgage Securities, a training book on the analysis and risks of mortgage-backed securities and CMOs. He has also written articles for industry publications such as Credit Union Journal and Bank Asset/Liability Management. In 1996, Mr. Bowers earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst.

Daniel Gordon, Retired Senior Capital Markets Officer, NCUA
Daniel Gordon was a Senior Capital Markets Officer in the NCUA's Office of Capital Markets and Planning for over 20 years. He has written substantial segments of Part 703, the investment segment of NCUA's rules and regulations. He provided overall direction to the assessment of
credit unions' balance sheet and investment risk and headed the regional capital markets
program. Mr. Gordon had responsibility for the examiner ALM and investment training and
directed the NCUA Investment Hotline. He taught substantial portions of NCUA's examiner
classes relating to investments and asset liability management. He continues to assist credit
unions with their investments and asset liability management.

Steven V. Mann, PhD, Professor of Finance and Department Chair,
University of South Carolina

Steven V. Mann (PhD, University of Nebraska) is a Professor of Finance at the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina and a fixed-income instructor for Frank J. Fabozzi Associates. He has published over seventy articles in finance journals and books. His books include Floating-Rate Securities and Introduction to Fixed-Income Analytics, which were both co-authored with Frank Fabozzi as well as The Global Money Markets and Measuring and Controlling Interest Rate and Credit Risk, which were both co-authored with Frank Fabozzi and Moorad Choudhry. In 2005, he co-edited Securities Finance and served as assistant editor of The Handbook of Fixed-Income Securities. Professor Mann has won two awards for outstanding research and 20 awards for excellence in teaching including The Moore School of Business Master Teacher Award and the two highest awards given by the University of South Carolina – The Michael J. Mungo Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Amoco Outstanding Teacher Award. He is an active consultant to some of the largest investment/commercial banks in the world. In addition, he has conducted over 150 training programs for financial institutions throughout the United States.

Paul R. Mayotte, Retired CEO, Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union
Paul Mayotte is the former CEO of Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, a community credit union in Lowell, Massachusetts. He had been with the credit union since 1983 and CEO since 1990. At his retirement in January 2008, the credit union had grown to over $600 million with over 40,000 members throughout Northern Mass and Southern New Hampshire. He is also a former Chairman
of the Board of Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union (EasCorp) and served on several charitable Boards in Lowell, most notably as Chairman of Saints Medical Center. He is a graduate of
Merrimack
College
and received his M.B.A. from Suffolk University.

Brad Miller, Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Coastal Federal Credit Union
Mr. Miller is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Coastal Federal Credit Union.
In his role, he is responsible for investment and balance sheet management, as well as various aspects of the risk management functions. Prior to joining Coastal FCU, he had gained over two decades of financial institution management experience with emphasis in the areas of investment management, ALM and consumer lending. His credentials include a CFA Charter, an MBA from Washburn University, a CPA certification and a Bachelors degree in Business Administration
and Accounting from the University of Kansas.

Ross R. Upton, President/CEO, St. Anne's Credit Union of Fall River
Ross Upton, President/CEO of St. Anne's, a $764 million community credit union, has been employed with the credit union since 1994, and has served as President/CEO since April of 2008. He is a member of the credit union's senior staff, Investment, Asset/Liability, and Finance Committees. Prior to joining the credit union, Mr. Upton spent 20 years working in the banking industry. His former position was the Chief Financial Officer of a community savings bank in Massachusetts.

Alan Bernstein, President, Vertifi Software, LLC
For more than 30 years, Alan Bernstein, President at Vertifi, has worked with numerous credit unions on financial management projects, including capital planning, cash flow forecasting, and budgeting. He specializes in ALM policy development, interest rate risk modeling, and providing financial education for elected officials. Mr. Bernstein is a frequent speaker at industry seminars on strategic planning, asset liability management, and other business topics.

Laura Moody, Asset Liability Manager, EasCorp
Laura Moody is responsible for analyzing the interest-rate risk of member balance sheets, interpreting the results and presenting them to member credit unions’ executive management and elected officials. Ms. Moody joined EasCorp in 2008 and brings more than ten years of credit union experience to her position, including cash account reconciliation and risk analysis responsibilities. She holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and finance from Regis University in Denver, Colorado; and she is currently pursuing a master of business administration, with a concentration in finance from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

Cynthia Nelson, CFA, Senior Vice President, EasCorp
Cynthia Nelson, Senior Vice President for EasCorp, directs EasCorp's Investment and Risk Management Departments. She works closely with credit union clients to review their asset-liability structures and develop investment strategies. In addition, she manages EasCorp's investment portfolio and risk management programs. Ms. Nelson has 18 years of experience in the credit union industry and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Jonathan Rankin, Assistant Vice President of ALM, EasCorp
Jonathan Rankin manages EasCorp's ALM and Professional Services programs, which encompass ALM Modeling and Consulting, Validation, Portfolio Analysis and Core Deposit Analysis services.
Mr. Rankin's responsibilities include analysis of credit union modeling results and portfolio strategy development, as well as the addition of new program participants. Mr. Rankin also delivers educational programs for elected credit union officials. Mr. Rankin joined EasCorp in 2005 after four years as an investment and ALM professional within the credit union industry. His previous positions also include eight years of financial services and relationship management experience within the mutual fund industry. Mr. Rankin holds a master of business administration degree from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts; and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He also maintains the FINRA Series 7, 24, 27 and 63 registrations with CU Investment Solutions, LLC.
